NYC24: Media pros tell you how to steal their jobs
CMA’s next college media convention happens in the heart of Manhattan – the media capital of the world.
Meet reporters, editors, broadcasters, podcasters, digital marketers, nonprofit content producers, public relations managers, and many other media pros whose jobs you don’t even know exist. Yet.
NYC24 is all about your future. Learn career development from those who already have the career you want.
PRO CON: new for 2024

Pro Con is short for “professional connections.” It’s an entire floor dedicated to sessions, meetings, consultations, and critiques from media employees and managers who have the jobs you might want one day.
These include mock job interviews and resume/portfolio reviews by media managers who currently hire employees.
Besides job-interviewing skills, learn the latest in leadership trends from managers and directors who use these tactics every day in their own workplaces, both large and small.
NYC24: the career-readiness convention

NYC24 is the first college media convention to laser-focus on the eight Career Readiness Competencies…
- Career & Self-Development
- Communication
- Critical Thinking
- Equity & Inclusion
- Leadership
- Professionalism
- Teamwork
- Technology
Each session and special event at NYC24 is color-coded to at least two of these competencies. In total, all eight competencies will be represented more than 100 times between March 13 and 16, in more than 200 encounters.
General and specific skills
While NYC24 focuses on media-related jobs – which the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates will total 114,300 openings per year through 2032 – students will leave Manhattan with career-readiness skills suitable for all professions.
Are all competencies equal?
A 2022 survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers revealed 96.8% of students and 95.6% of employers “cite Communication as the most important competency” – and communication is what NYC24 and media is all about.
